Jacksonville Attorney Speaks to
Andrew Robinson Elementary Students

Attorney Kevin Cobbin recently visited Andrew Robinson Elementary to talk to the fourth- and fifth-grade boys about the criminal justice system, his life growing up in Jacksonville and recent events that have occurred to minors in Duval County. While addressing the students, Cobbin explained to them what happens to young children if they get arrested, and he encouraged the students to always behave and act in a responsible manner.“It was important for our young men to hear what Mr. Cobbin had to say because of some of the recent events that have occurred in our community, and some of the misinformation our young men hear from others. He really had students’ attention throughout his presentation, and they asked great questions,” said William Jackson, teacher at Andrew Robinson Elementary.

Ribault High School Junior Spends Summer Interning with Attorney Cobbin

This summer a rising Junior from Ribault High School had the opportunity to explore his interest in the legal field. Christopher Carter interned and shadowed Attorney Kevin M. Cobbin for six weeks, learning about the legal system and courtroom protocol. Mr. Carter was a participant with the (POPS) program. POPS is designed to give aspiring young men and women an opportunity to explore areas of careers interests by working closely with professionals in their various fields.

Jacksonville is the third site of the POPS Inc. expansion and currently has an enrollment of 40 students. The program currently serves students that attend A. Phillip Randolph High School, Raines High School, and Ribault High School. The POPS program includes field trips, bi-monthly seminars, small group sessions and one-on-one sessions with students to address individual needs. POPS also provide paid summer internships for all students enrolled in their program. Students have been placed with local government agencies, businesses, and nonprofit organizations.
